Eliminate False Alarms

The False Alarm Epidemic

Mayors throughout the lower mainland are desperate to deal with the high costs of false alarms caused by monitored alarm systems. For example, RCMP statistics for the city of Richmond show that of 7170 alarms in 2005, 97.4 per cent were false.

A 97.4% failure rate of any product or service is staggering and unacceptable.

The Reasons Behind the False Alarm Problem

Twenty years ago monitored alarm systems were not as popular, especially for homeowners. One U.S. survey discovered only 7% of households had monitored alarm systems in 1988. By 2000 17.8% of homeowners decided to own a monitored alarm system. By 2006 it was estimated that a full 25% of households had alarm systems. That would represent a 350% increase over the number of monitored alarm systems since 1988. Increases in population from 1988 to 2006 would probably result in making the number about 450% higher. The number of policemen available to respond to alarm calls has not increased in the same manner. Simple math concludes that police resources have been swamped by the triple digit increase in alarm calls. Given the general tone of recent letters to local newspapers it is obvious that community members expect the police to cope with the overwhelming number of alarm calls despite that they clearly do not have the resources to do so. Given the increase in the number of installed alarm systems a city’s police force would have to be tripled or quadrupled in order to maintain the same level of service present in 1988. The only feasible way for the police to cope with the high number of monitored alarm systems and their accompanying alerts would be to reduce the number of calls. Currently up to 97% of alarm calls are false. Put in another way, three out of one hundred alarm calls are verified as real emergencies. The problem is that the police currently do not have a way to determine the 97 calls that are not verified emergencies until they arrive at the alarm premises.

- Eliminates False Alarms

is now offering breakthrough technology that will finally eliminate false alarms. As mentioned previously, traditional alarm systems are deaf and blind. If the alarm call could be verified, the false alarm rate would drop like a rock.

How It Works

Security systems provide the monitoring operator with an actual video of the intrusion. The video evidence and 2-way voice verify that the alarm is an actual crime-in-progress and not a costly false alarm. With law enforcement increasingly pressured by budget cuts, video verified alarms help police capture more intruders and provide better protection.

A sophisticated motion sensor combined with a night vision camera and illuminators, the Video Sentry detects and captures the intrusion on video. Monitoring personnel immediately see a 10 second video clip of the actual intrusion and can use 2-way voice to challenge and verify it. More than an alarm, a unit is a true security system combining detection, video and 2-way voice to give greater protection to your valuables and your family.
